ABN

An Australian Business Number (ABN) is required for NDIS registration

To ensure that providers are legitimate and operating as recognised business entities within Australia.
The ABN serves several important purposes:

Legal Identification

It acts as a unique identifier for your business, helping to distinguish it from other entities.

Compliance and Accountability

Having an ABN ensures that your business complies with Australian taxation laws and regulations.

Professionalism and Trust

It signals to clients and the NDIS Commission that your business is established, professional, and accountable.

Record Keeping

An ABN helps in maintaining accurate records for business transactions, taxation, and auditing purposes.

This requirement helps maintain the integrity and reliability of the NDIS system by ensuring that only bona fide businesses can become registered providers.

WHAT IS AN ABN?

The ABN is a unique 11-digit number that identifies your business or organisation to the government and community.

DO I NEED TO BE A SOLE TRADER OR A COMPANY TO BECOME NDIS REGISTERED?

You only need an ABN to start the NDIS registration process. This can be as a Sole Trader or as a company, but please be aware that you cannot transfer your NDIS registration from Sole Trader to a company at a later stage, as the ABN is linked to your registration, so you need to think long term before you start your registration application.
